An irrefutable reality of being a member of the LGBTQ community, at any age, is that you must grant more thought than non-LGBTQ people about where to exist. What are the local laws that apply to LGBTQ people regarding workplace and housing discrimination, marriage equality and conversion therapy? What does available common polling reveal about acceptance of the LGBTQ community? Even if you’re not married and don’t plan to be, or even if you no longer work, such laws — or the absence of them — suggest to LGBTQ folks how safe and welcoming the locale will be for them.

Coming in at #10, we have a tie between Huntington, West Virginia, and Lexington, Kentucky. Huntington has the lowest rents at $870 monthly for a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment. Huntington has the lowest median income at $37,000 and the lowest average income at $54,000 annually. Huntington came in at #33 on the US News & World Inform for the best retirement cities in the US. Lexington is one of the most temperate climates in the top 10 locations. It came in at #48 on the US New & Planet Report for the top retirement cities in the US.
Coming in at #9 is Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Harrisburg has the highest require of living at 100.6%. It came in #1 on the US News
