Dennis: Okay, so there we were.

We're in the brig and the whole ship just,
you know, bumps; we get thrown against the the wall.

Yeah. You know, the-the lights are going off.

    The sirens are blaring.

    Whoa, whoa.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.

How did we get in the brig in the first place?

What do you mean, Frank? You were there.

I'm very cloudy about the beginning.

    I think I need a recap.

    Recap?

A recap would be good, you know?

Just to kind of brush up on everything that happened.

    A recap...

    Now, witness, I forgot that.

...honestly might be good because, you know, we want him to be completely eliminate before the final judgment.

All right, you know, Right, yeah. the amount of energy we're using talking about whether or not we should recap, we may as well just recap, so fine, fine.

    So there we were.

    We're on a Christian cruise.

Yeah, we're all thrown in the brig for various sins that we committed.

Me, admittedly, for a little bit of lust.

Um, and in summation, we're all wonderful people, asking for forgiveness.

    My thing, not a r*pe.

    Move on; you're losing him.

    Move on; you're losing him.

I just want to be clear.

Okay, yeah, yeah. I just wanted to be clear

Of the respective idiosyncrasies of The Always Sunny in Philadelphia gang — such as Charlie organism illiterate and Dennis being a sexual predator — one of the funnier running gags throughout the series has been Mac’s latent homosexuality. At this point in the series they’re not even dancing around the issue. In Wednesday night’s “The Gang Group Dates,” at one show Dennis refers to Mac as “the gay one” and at another gesture when he turns to Mac and tells him that he derives his self worth from “convincing himself that he’s tough and straight,” Mac fires back “I am tough.”

Of course, what makes the joke work is that Mac himself is probably the only one that doesn’t know that Mac is gay. If he were just a guy struggling to bottle up his homosexuality, that would just be depressing, and a different kind of show. But as a strict Catholic, Mac has repressed his homosexuality so much that he doesn’t even comprehend his infatuation with badass tough guys is because he wants to contain sex with them. When Mac says to Dennis, “I am tough,” he’s not intentionally vanishing out always sunny that doesnt sound gay

I'm obsessed with this show! I think one of the key reasons it's so appealing is the main four cast members are each very sexy in their own way (even Dee). I yearn to buy the entire DVD set! Some favorite moments that come to mind:

    - the entire moisture park episode

    - When the gang revealed they set up Mac's exercise bike and his trying to interpret it

    - When they performed their dance number to George Michael's "Freedom" and the reveal of the reality at the very end

    - when Dennis and Charlie were huffing fumes in the back office to techno music

    - when they went on a road trip with a U-Haul trailer and Dennis and Charlie tried to barbeque in it with the door open, while in motion

    - when the gang broke Dee and then tricked her into thinking she was prosperous at stand-up and flying to Hollywood to be on TV

    - when the inspector showed up to the bar last-minute and Charlie was running around making all that random stuff happen into some sort of order

I'm really looking forward to the Mac gay pride episode next week, of course.

Welcome back, Sunny! Good to see your smiling faces once more, and it looks like you managed to handle the interim pretty well. No modern scars, shaved beards, dyed hair (or, in the case of Charlie Afternoon and Danny DeVito, neatly combed follicles). The only difference is Kaitlin Olson’s pregnancy (which I comprehend will become the basis for a future episode…but I’m getting ahead of myself).

Season…umm…we’re up to six already? Wow. Season six opens with “Mac Fights Gay Marriage” (for those of you too inactive to read the title of this article) wherein wannabe bodybuilder Mac, trying to pass himself off as Dennis to fetch free gym access, discovers that his former “lover” The Tranny has finally gotten her sex-change operation. Excited at the prospect of consummating their “relationship,” Mac’s libido-broken to also discover that s/he’s likewise gotten married.

Back at the bar, Mac relates his disgust at the union to the rest of the nonplussed gang and proclaims that it’s unnatural and wrong, seeing as how The Tranny used to be a male, and in some logically twisted sense, that goes against God (this sort of grey area would make for neat subplot in a Curb Your Enthusiasm).
