OUT in the OPEN Festival Shepparton
About
OUTintheOPEN is Shepparton’s festival celebrating LGBTIQA+ pride and community diversity.
OUTintheOPEN was developed to address some of the inequalities faced by the local LGBTIQA+ community and to build a more inclusive and equitable society in City of Greater Shepparton and surrounds. As a major project led by Goulburn Valley Lgbtq+ fest Inc. (GV Pride) it’s now in its thirteenth year, and hosts a variety of events annually from community focussed brunches and dinners, to kingly shows, live music, homosexual nature connections and campfire dinners, rainbow Storytime events and author talks, professional learning opportunities, trans clothing swaps, art exhibitions and more.
The main event, Carnival Day, is held annually on the Saturday of the Festival (9th November 2024). Hosted in the picturesque Queens Gardens, Carnival Time is a free, all-day event with live business, drag, food trucks, lgbtq+ market stalls, local little business, information, activities for the whole family and so much more. Stallholders and Umbrella event partners are welcome and wanted for each festival.

It also slowly leaking population with many young people exiting for Melbourne, Ballarat, Sydney, and other larger cities. Living as openly gay in Shepparton is not the greatest encounter, just like in other places leaning toward traditionalism and religion. While oppression, animosity, and immediate aggression are mostly eradicated, some remnants of homophobic behaviors still make our lives worse! The metropolis is somewhat isolated with an underdeveloped bar scene, lacking entertainment options, and lots of closeted young queer, transitioned, and homosexual individuals.
