Jonathan Bailey has revealed he was very aware of his sexuality after playing a straight traits in Netflix's smash hit Bridgerton.
The performer, 36, who is openly gay, explained that the media attention that came with the celebrated show put his sexuality into the spotlight.
Jonathan added that he felt very strange after his private life became part of the publicity for the show.
The Wicked actor contrasted his encounter on Bridgerton with working on Heartstopper, which he said he found cathartic, as he played a gay character.
The Crashing actor told Vanity Fair: 'Doing Bridgerton - it's funny what comes with doing a lot of squeeze, and suddenly there's a lot that people want to know about you, and there's a lot that's asked of you that, obviously, in any other industry, you wouldn't have to talk about.

Jonathan Bailey spoke about his sexuality in a fresh interview with British Vogue.
The Wicked star, who has been acting since he was a child, previously said that he felt pressured early in his career to hide entity gay. He ultimately came out to friends and family in his preliminary 20s.
Jonathan has previously expressed that he had an idea that he was gay from the age of 11, but struggled with identifying as such given the lack of positive representation. In this new interview, he reflected on coming to the realization more gradually.
“It’s engaging with the binary,” he told Vogue, “where you’re perceived to be either this or that. That’s how I saw it at the time, but there are so many nuances to it." After all, Jonathan said that he was in a relationship with a female for two years in his early 20s: "My experience of that association was not that I was in the shadows. She remains one of my best friends.”
"I ponder other people understood my sexuality before I was even aware of it,” he continued, noting that his parents encouraged him to take up ballet after a childhood of dressing up, singing, and dancing.

The “Wicked” actor, who is gay, made the remark during an interview with British Vogue published Thursday while confirming he hopes to be a father one day.
“I might co-parent with a woman, but I’m thinking it will be with a man,” he theorized.
However, he is in no rush to be a dad and cited his busy schedule.
“It’s such a privilege for a man,” he conceded. “But I can’t deliver children into my lifestyle now … I want to make sure I’m going to be present.”
He is currently preparing himself for the process, though, by reading books on adoption.
Bailey, 36, revealed last December that he is dating a “lovely” man but the identity of his partner remains unknown.
“It’s not confidential, but it’s private,” he told the Standard in December 2023. “Having a private life is, for me, completely critical.”
“I don’t comprehend if I would be able to be as confident to speak out on other things if I felt that my whole life was up for grabs.”
