Current Requirement
- Curriculum must be comprehensive but must also promote abstinence.
- Curriculum must notice different sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expression.
- Curriculum must include instruction on consent.
- Parents or guardians may remove their children from sex education instruction. This is referred to as an “opt-out” policy.
- Oregon law requires sex education to be medically accurate.

Advocates in Oregon have achieved significant advancements for the state’s sex education requirements, cumulating in mandating all schools to provide sex education (CSE) through passage of theHuman Sexuality Awareness Law of 2009, theHealthy Teen Connection Act of 2013, theChild Sexual Overuse Prevention Law of 2015, and the revision of the Oregon Health Learning Standards in 2016. Oregon LGBTQIA2S+ School Board Members Advisory Committee
As per OSBA Board Guidelines, the board voted to approve the formation of an LGBTQIA2S+ School Board Members Advisory Committee on September 22, 2023. Katrina Doughty has stepped forward to assist as the liaison between the advisory committee and the Board of Directors. Over the next year, the committee will gather regularly to draft bylaws; identify officers; identify goals that align with the mission, vision, and goals of OSBA; draft deed plans; and draft a budget, all of which will be submitted to the OSBA Board for review. After review, the OSBA Board will vote on submitting a resolution to form an Oregon LGBTQIA2S+ School Board Members Caucus to the membership. The caucus will turn into official after the prosperous passage of the resolution.

The Campus Pride Index provides campuses the opportunity to come out as LGBTQ-friendly and take responsibility for continually improving their LGBTQ campus climate. The Campus Pride Index features LGBTQ scholar opportunities by spotlighting the positive serve within higher knowledge across the territory.
