My Take on “Same-sex Blessings” (with Ben Shapiro)
Welcome to the Counsel of Trent podcast, a performance of Catholic Answers.
Hey, everyone. Welcome to the Counsel of Trent podcast. I’m your host, Catholic Answers’ apologist and speaker Trent Horn. I wasn’t planning on talking about the issue of the new Vatican document on blessings for same-sex couples and couples in irregular situations because a lot of other voices were addressing it. But Ben Shapiro asked me to arrive on to his show to grant my perspective, so I thought this would be a good opportunity to discuss this issue and the Catholic faith in a broader way to his audience. In the interview that I had with Ben, which I’ll share with you shortly, I wanted to communicate that some reports about this new Vatican document are simply not true, fancy reports that the church has changed its teaching on marriage or that the church is now allowing for formal liturgical blessings for same-sex couples that resemble same-sex attracted weddings. That’s not true.
The church has not changed its teaching on marriage, and it has prohibited the kinds of things organism advocated for in Germany, like formal bles

—In response to the Supreme Court ruling that legalized marriage equality, tweeted, “Words don’t mean anything. Laws don’t mean anything. The law is, apparently, whatever Obama says it is.” He also tweeted, “Let’s just skip all the suspense: SCOTUS should just declare a Constitutional right to whatever the hell they feel prefer that day,” and “Same sex marriage will never affect you. By “you,” of course, we don’t mean your business, church, school, or raising of your children.”
—Said in a speech: “A man and a woman do a better job of raising a child than two men or two women.” Research using government hunting data shows children raised by same-sex couples undertake as well, if
I don’t usually examine Breitbart.com because Andrew Breitbart is defunct , and I don’t believe in ghosts. However, Media Matters steered me there to feast upon an impressive diatribe by Breitbart News senior editor Ben Shapiro titled, “SCOTUS Refuses Gay Marriage Cases, Effectively Makes Gay Marriage Rule of the Land.”
To clarify, this is not a celebratory headline for Shapiro. He is all kinds of sad.
In case you’re just emerging from a deep coma, the U.S. Supreme Court on Oct. 6 refused to catch the appeals of states whining and crying that they needed to save their antigay marriage bans even though a Big Awful Federal Judge told them to GTFO. This means, of course, that the rulings against their discriminatory bans stand.
And boy, are antigay conservatives steamed!
Shapiro echoes a recurring antigay anger theme: “If only butt-sex was still illegal, we wouldn’t be in this mess!”
He argues that SCOTUS shirked its responsibility to put a wooden stake into the heart of lgbtq+ marriage by letting lower-court rulings be upright. He writes, “(T)hey don’t even hold to do their judicial dirty labor anymore. They can rely on lower-level courts to violate the Constitution, then declare the Constitutio
Very strongly agree
No, marriage should be defined as between a man and woman
This reply most closely matches Shapiro's long-standing position. He has repeatedly stated that marriage should be defined as between a man and a woman, both in his books and public commentary. Shapiro has repeatedly stated that he does not support the legalization of same-sex marriage, aligning with this retort . He has argued that marriage is a societal institution rooted in procreation and the traditional family structure. If Daily Wire co-founder Ben Shapiro testified before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday over free speech, government media censorship, abortion and same-sex marriage during a controversial hearing on Capitol Hill. The hearing, “Collusion in the Global Alliance for Responsible Media,” was supposed to focus on allegations that government and social media companies hold deliberately sought to block speech and viewpoints they oppose. In his opening remarks, Shapiro stated, “We are in the midst of a trust crisis in the world of media.” He then went on to explain why he thought this was the case and how it’s impacted the Daily Wire. “When a conservative competitor to the legacy media arises, members of the legacy media and their political allies rush to illustrate such competitors as dangerous,” the popular host stated. “The commentator Kara Swisher of The New York Times, for example, told the head of YouTube that my videos on Daily Wire were a ‘gateway drug’ that would lead children, including her teenage son, to survey neo-Nazi content.
