Conservative radio host John Reid, the first openly gay Republican candidate to scamper for state office in Virginia, vowed to continue his bid for lieutenant governor amid allegations that he common explicit images of naked men on Tumblr.
The scandal, first reported by the Richmonder, has sparked a public feud between Reid and current Gov. Glenn Youngkin, dividing the Republican party ahead of Virginia’s gubernatorial election in November. It centers on illicit pictures mutual by an account with a username matching the one Reid uses on Instagram and his other social media accounts.
The radio host has repeatedly denied the profile belongs to him and suggested it was being used as a means to force him out of the race. It disappeared from the internet on Friday, shortly after The Richmonder published a story about images reposted on the Tumblr page between 2018 and 2020. They reportedly showed men in the nude — though none of them featured Reid himself.
“That’s not my account,” Reid said. “Anyone on the internet can uncover accounts with the same or similar names as other people.”

Newly published research has set up clear evidence that openly lesbian, gay, bisexual, gender non-conforming, intersex, and queer+ (LGBTIQ+) Australian politicians were disproportionately targeted with personal overuse on social media at the last federal election. Given global trends, it’s unlikely to be any different this year.
Simply logging off is not an option for candidates, who need to communicate with voters. As a product, some politicians will proceed to face risky online visibility.

So what do these trends mean for queer candidates ahead of this year’s election? And why does it matter for the next generation of politically engaged young people?

We analysed more than 100,000 tweets across the Twitter profiles of eight openly queer politicians and candidates (Penny Wong, Julian Hill, Nita Green, Tim Wilson, Janet Rice, Rachael Jacobs, Claire Garton, Stephen Bates) during the 2022 federal election campaign. Gucci’s latest gifting campaign full of kissing, want and sexuality has angered some homophobic social media users, who threatened to unfollow the brand.
The festive campaign for Christmas, curated by creative director Sabato de Sarno, was mutual on Gucci’s official Instagram account in December. The Gucci Gift campaign’s theme is “Togetherness”, and aims to spotlight moments spent with loved ones.
The luxury fashion brand kicked off the new year, continuing its gifting campaign by posting to Instagram a photograph of two male models kissing, with the caption reading, “Love, devote, love. Celebrating encounters entire of emotion with Gucci Gift.”

Instagram influencer apologizes for sparking campaign to out homosexual men in Morocco
The gender non-conforming Instragram influencer who has been blamed with sparking a campaign that has been used to out gay men in Morocco has apologized for her actions.
Naoufal Moussa, a Turkey-based beauty influencer also acknowledged as Sofia Taloni, told her 620,000 Instagram followers during a broadcast last month that they should download various dating apps to locate gay men, so they could view how many of their family members, friends, or neighbors were gay.
Following Moussa’s broadcast, a number of people downloaded the apps and began chatting with men using fake profiles, tricking them into sharing pictures and personal facts. That information was then used to “out” several men, and to blackmail others.
Many of those outed claimed that they were experiencing harassment and hostility, often at the hands of family members, while others became homeless after being kicked out of their homes.
